  • Candidates should then practice extensively on exam-style questions. Practice will improve the candidate’s ability to answer tested questions well, and should enable them to answer them more quickly.
  • Dear Candidates! Keep an eye out for articles (you can find them at accaglobal official website), as the examination team will use Student Accountant to have words with the students.

4 Brought forward knowledge

Candidates should have a good working knowledge of basic management accounting from the earliest Paper F2. Chapter 1 of this Study Text (BPP) revises elements of costing, and further revision material is provided in other chapters (candidates will find when they will read the chapters), such as those on CVP analysis and variance analysis. If Candidates struggle with the examples and practice questions used to revise this knowledge, candidates should go back and revisit their previous work.

Revising F5 Performance Management (PM)

Topics to revise

All questions are compulsory so you must revise the entire syllabus. Since the exam includes 15 multiple choice questions, candidates should expect questions to cover a large portion of the syllabus. Selective topics of revision will limit the number of questions you can answer and therefore, reduce candidates’ chances of passing. It is, therefore, better to go into the exam knowing a reasonable and enough amount of most of the syllabus rather than concentrating on just a few topics to the exclusion of the rest.

Avoiding weaknesses

  • There is surely no choice in this paper, all questions are compulsory and have to be answered. Candidates must therefore study the whole syllabus, there is no short-cut.
  • The ability to answer multiple-choice questions and Multiple-task questions improves with practice. Try to do as much practice with these questions as you can do.

  • Planning of the answer for the longer questions will help candidates to focus on the requirements of the question and enable them to manage their time effectively.
  • Answer all parts (compulsory) of the longer questions. Even if candidates cannot do all the calculation elements, they will still be able to gain marks in the discussion parts.

Multiple-choice questions

Some MCQs will be easier than others. Answering those that candidates feel fairly confident about as quickly as they can. Come back later to those that candidates find more difficult. This could be a good way of making use of the time in the exam most efficiently and effectively.
Many MCQs will not include calculations. Make sure that candidates well understand the wording of 'written' MCQs before selecting their answer.

Calculations in Section C questions

There will be some relatively straightforward calculations in the exam at the start of the question and they will then probably get progressively more difficult. If candidates stuck, make an assumption, state it, and move on.
