The F5 Management Accounting (FM) exam requires students to apply management accounting techniques in business environments.

F5 Management Accounting (FM) is the middle (center) paper in the management accounting section of the qualification structure. F2 concerns just techniques and its advance P5 thinks strategically and considers environmental factors. 2 What skills are required?
Candidates are expected to have a Depth and core of management accounting knowledge from the earlier Paper F2.
To deal with the multiple-choice questions, Candidates will need to demonstrate understanding of the subject across the whole syllabus.
For the longer questions (Section- C), Candidates will be required to carry out calculations, with Crystal clear workings and a logical structure.
Candidates will be required to interpret data.
Candidates will be required to explain management accounting techniques and discuss whether they are appropriate and Reasonable for a particular organization.
Candidates must be able to apply their skills in a practical context.
3 How to improve your chances of passing
There is absolutely no choice in this paper; all questions are compulsory and have to be answered. Candidates must therefore study the whole syllabus, remember, there are no short-cuts.
Candidates should then practice extensively on exam-style questions. Practice will improve candidate’s ability to answer tested questions well, and should enable them to answer them more quickly.

4 Brought forward knowledge
Candidates will should have a good working knowledge of basic management accounting from the earliest Paper F2. Chapter 1 of this Study Text (BPP) revises elements of costing, and further revision material is provided in other chapters (candidates will find when they will read the chapters), such as those on CVP analysis and variance analysis. If Candidates struggle with the examples and practice questions used to revise this knowledge, candidates should go back and revisit their previous work.
Revising F5 Management Accounting (FM)
Topics to revise
All questions are compulsory so you must revise the entire syllabus. Since, the exam includes 15 multiple choice questions, candidates should expect questions to cover a large portion of the syllabus. Selective topics of revision will limit the number of questions you can answer and therefore, reduce candidates’ chances of passing. It is therefore, better to go into the exam knowing a reasonable and enough amount of most of the syllabus rather than concentrating on just a few topics to the exclusion of the rest.
Question practice
Practicing exam-style questions as many as possible will be the key for candidates to pass this exam. Candidates are suggested, must do questions under timed conditions and be ensure, you write full answers to the discussion parts along with the calculations if required.

Passing the F5 Management Accounting (FM) exam
Candidates are expected to have a core and depth knowledge of management accounting from the previous studies of F2.

Avoiding weaknesses
There is surely no choice in this paper, all questions are compulsory and have to be answered. Candidates must therefore study the whole syllabus, there is no short-cut.
Ability to answer multiple-choice questions and Multiple-task questions improves with practice. Try to do as much practice with these questions as you can do.
The longer section-c questions will be based on simple scenarios and answers must be focused to a specific organization.
Planning of the answer for the longer questions will help candidates to focus on the requirements of the question and enable them to manage their time effectively.
Answer all parts (compulsory) of the longer questions. Even if candidates cannot do all the calculation elements, they will still be able to gain marks in the discussion parts.
Multiple choice questions
Some MCQs will be easier than others. Answering those that candidates feel fairly confident about as quickly as they can. Come back later to those that candidates find more difficult. This could be a good way of making use of the time in the exam most efficiently and effectively.
Many MCQs will not include calculations. Make sure that candidates well understand the wording of 'written' MCQs before selecting their answer.
Calculations in Section C questions
There will be some relatively straightforward calculations in the exam at the start of the question and they will then probably get progressively more difficult. If candidates stuck, make an assumption, state it and move on.
